Prep For Painting
Saleen Urethane Parts

The following procedures are recommended when refinishing or painting Saleen Aerodynamic parts.  Always fit, check and inspect all parts prior to prepping.

Step 1:       Clean parts thoroughly inside and out with detergent and hot water to remove oils and other materials that may inhibit paint adhesion.

Do not sand prior to this cleaning process as this may permanently affect paint adhesion.

Step 2:       Completely  sand and rough the entire surface with dual action sander using 150 grit sandpaper.

Step 3:       Urethane parts:  Patch and repair any bubbles or imperfections with a non-swelling, semi rigid, two part urethane repair kit (i.e. sem or duramix 4040)

Fiberglass parts: Patch and finish any                          imperfections with body filler.

Step 4:             Wipe clean all dust and particles from the part with 902 RM plastic cleaner.

Step 5:             Apply two light coats of 934.0 adhesion promoter ( be sure to cover the entire surface)

Step 6:             Prime the parts using the following Glasurit

Products mixed according to paint manufacturer’s specifications:

                        285-22 Glasurit primer

                        522-111 Glasurit electrifier

                        929-73 or 74 Glasurit hardener

                        352-91 Glasurit reducer

Step 7:             Finish sand primer to 600 wet grit, dry, clean again with 902 RM and apply sealer 285-28.

Step 8:             Paint with Glasurit basecoat/clear coat system according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Caution:    For optimal results and safe use of these materials it is recommended that a professional paint and body shop do the preparation and painting.
